Where do I buy my gear?

Hey everyone,

Since yesterday’s post I’ve received a few emails asking where I get my gear?  I thought this would be a great opportunity to share http://www.photoprice.ca/ with you.  This site is dedicated to providing Canadians with the best deals in photo equipment across North America! The best part is it takes tax, duty and shipping into consideration.  Check it out, it might save you a few bucks to put towards another piece of glass! *wink*

Whats in my bag?

Hey Gang,

You might remeber last’s years post of Whats in my bag

Well things are a little different this year, actually ALOT different! *LOL* Last year I switched systems and jumped ship! I went over to the “Dark side” as us Canonians (Canon users) would say; I picked up a complete Nikon system! The first question everyone is probably asking is why? Honestly? I looooooove gold..I mean toys! Like the old saying goes boyz and their toyz, it never stops it just gets more expensive *wink*

All joking aside though I absolutely love my new gear! From the D3’s ISO capabilities to the sharpness of ALL the lenses, its butter baby!

Let’s start off with the D3 this baby is 12.87MP shooting at 9 frames per second that’s right 9! As mentioned the ISO performance is stellar, I mean I have shots at 3200 that are so clean they rival some of my 5d 800ISO shots! What I really love is the duel card slot; it serves as a little piece of insurance. Even though I’ve never had a card corrupt on me *knock on wood* if it ever does happen I have the other card serving as a back up!

Now the lens the true reason I switched! Warning: The following statement does not reflect the views or opinions shared by this broadcast station! *LOL* The lenses rock! There are no sharper zoom lenses on the market period!

I would even say that my new Nikon 24-70 at F2.8 comes pretty darn close to my old canon fixed lenses. Don’t get me wrong I really loved my canon lenses especially my 35 F1.4 and 85F1.2 and this is Nikon’s biggest draw back they don’t have any great wide angle primes like the 24mm or 35mm. But something might be in the works for this year! *wink**wink*

The 14-24 is also rated the sharpest wide angle prime, this lens is so fun! Like all wide angles this lens is great for landscapes and getting close to the action but its sharp from center to edge, tack sharp! The 70-200 is probably my most used lens; the way this baby melts the background out of focus is magical! I’ll be posting a personal review of each piece of equipment in the future stay tuned to that!

So with no further ado here’s Whats In My Bag.

New addition to the GK family

Hey Gang,

Our past couples definitely know how much of a coffee freak Lez and I are, especially for a good cappuccino or espresso. So we did our research well Lez did! *LOL* “We” found out their are 4 factors that contribute to a great espresso

1) Pump-driven rather than steam driven Machine, as pump-driven machines provide more consistent pressure and flow rate.
2) Double boiler is best as this will result in a hotter shot
3) Use a good quality bean (kept in a zip-lock bag stored away from sunlight)
4) Use Filtered water, as this will effect the taste

We found our baby! This thing makes some killer shots of espresso and some real smooth Cappuccinos! So here’s the invite! I’ll be seeing Connie and Danny soon a.k.a. my cappuccino couple!

I want to officially introduce you to Amy my kick a$$ assistant and her awesome fiancé Nick! I’ve known Amy now for a few years and she always told me that I would shoot her wedding, I told her name the time and place. Well she did! Actually Nick did when he proposed to her in NEW YORK CITY! You’re probably asking how a GK Bride became an assistant? It’s easy! When you mix a genuine sincerity, with passion, kindness and talent you have a super star photographer in the works! Can’t wait for your day guys!
