Hey Gang,

I have some very BIG and exciting news today. I would like to officially welcome you to the launch of our new company Bassem! Yes it’s all about me and anyone who knows me realizes that’s just not me! Some of you may be asking “Where’s GK Photography?” It’s still here with the same guy behind the camera but under a new name…a face-lift if you may! “Why you ask?” In Phoenix I met an amazing couple, Richard and Amy of Red Leaf Studios who I guess were impressed with my enthusiasm and passion for weddings but more importantly my couples. I guess they saw something special in me and I’m truly humbled and honored by that. Come on were talking about Red Leaf Studios rated one of the top studios in Canada and they saw potential in me, Bassem from little old Cambridge, ON! They helped me realize that the company should be a representation of its soul, love, passion and driving force and I’d say I’m all that and more. I found my calling in wedding photography and I never forget how fortunate I am to be doing what I truly love.

I want to especially thank Richard and Amy of Red Leaf Studios who were behind the whole branding of Bassem (sounds weird talking about yourself in the 3rd person *LOL*) They designed everything from my website to logo to all my marketing material. Thank you guys so much; you know how much I love you…. Did I say thank you yet? (inside joke)

I would also like to thank my close friend Mandy Richardson, writer/author extraordinaire! Thank you so much sweetie for putting into words what was in my heart. You have such a gift and you know how much I love how your helping people through your Diva classes.

Finally I want to thank Lez…..Baby we did it! All my big moments in my life worth remembering have been influenced or shared with you and words can’t describe how truly blessed I am to have an amazing woman like you in my life. Thank you for your patience and your unconditional support.

Without further ado I have the absolute pleasure of introducing you to………

Happy gorgeous Monday morning!! I hope all had a great mother’s day! Lez, the kids and I celebrated two special occasions yesterday, one being mothers day and the other being our 12-year anniversary. I thought Id share a little of our special day 12 years ago, sorry about the poor scan but you have to remember that we got married before digital photography was big. I get asked all the time who shot our wedding, we were so fortunate to have my best friend’s father capture our special day for us. So thank you Mr. C! I really have to give this woman credit not just for being an amazing mother, daughter; friend and wife but I can’t get over her selflessness. I’m truly blessed to have a woman that supports me in every way. Love you Lez.

Hey Everyone,

Im super excited today cause I have a wedding tomorrow with an amazing couple! This week I wanted to talk about camera panning “To move a movie or television camera to follow an object or create a panoramic effect”. Ive used this technique in the past to accentuate subject movement its really fun but it does take a bit of practice.

- Select a slightly slower shutter speed than you normally would
- As the subject approaches track it smoothly with your camera
- Use of a tripod will help with a smooth transition
- For best results set yourself up so that you’re parallel to the path
- Set the camera to AF servo

The following example was captured several years ago now. I was on my way home from work and I noticed a huge bird (turkey vulture) in the middle of the road, I grabbed my camera and approached slowly. It flew off, when I looked in my mirror I noticed it was right behind me so I put the car in reverse. All of the sudden it starting flying towards me, I put the car into drive and started driving along side it taking photos at the same time. I would not recommend this! As you notice the vulture is relatively sharp compared to the background, which is a result of panning with your subject. So take your kids or a pet to the park and try it out!
