Photo-Tip-Fridays :: Lesson 2

Hey Everyone,

TGIF! Cars aren’t the only things that go Zoom, Zoom, Zoom…OK that was cheesy! *LOL* For decades Cinematographers have used zooming as an effect to illustrate motion in their movies. But as I discovered found out you can have a similar effect on still photos as well. Using a Zoom Lens like your standard 24-70mm or 70-200mm you can adjust the focal length while shooting, this works best with slower shutter speeds.

Follow these basic steps:

1) Start off at your widest focal point ie. 24mm
2) Take the shot (slower shutter speed required 1/10 sec)
3) While the lens is still open adjust your focal lens to your narrowest setting ie. 70mm
4) Have fun!

I used the steps listed above for the following examples.
